Inspired by real events published in popular newspapers, the film addresses the daily lives of the
poor population living on the banks of the Tietê River through the experiences of four characters who
fight for survival and try to find themselves through feelings.

It won the Coruja de Ouro awards for Direction, Supporting Actress and Music, and the Governor of
the State of São Paulo awards for Best Director, Best Actress and Best Music, as well as Honorable
Mention for Best Music and Best Actress for Valéria Vidal, at the 1967 Brasília Film Festival. It
also won the INC - National Film Institute Additional Quality Award for Best Direction, Best Music
and Best Supporting Actress in 1968.
