The Festival showed films such as: Sympathy for the Devil (1968), by Jean-Luc Godard; Black Panthers, by Agnès Varda (1968), The Birth of a Nation (1915), by D. W. Griffith, Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song (1971), by Melvin Van Peebles, among others, and contributed to the understanding of a crucial period in the history of civil rights of African-Americans in the United States. Documentaries and fiction films were screened, showing an artistic and political approach on the subject, bringing new perspectives to the Project.
